La Ferme de l'Église is a stunning 16th century Charantaise farmhouse nestled within the heart of the village of Vanzay in the beautiful countryside about 45km to the south of Poitiers and to the east of La Rochelle.

Vanzay: what's special?
Even though we are in the middle of the village, La Ferme de l’Église is in a secluded, private location, with large spacious gardens.

Barn owls and other rare creatures abound in the neighbouring church belfry and barns on site.

It’s peaceful and Poitou-Charente is one of the sunniest regions in France.

Easy access throughout the region, being only 10 minutes drive from N10

The property
Situated next to a beautiful 12th century church in the centre of the village, its private driveway and walled courtyard offer you a hidden retreat from the world, an oasis of tranquility. And with a generous walled private garden, space and peace are guaranteed.

Restored over 3 years by skilled local craftsmen, La Ferme de l’Église and our two self-catering gîtes La Petite Maison and La Grange combine timeless original features with the luxuries of modern living. La Petite Maison is attached to the main house.

The area
Not only is the Charente area rich in history with many sites to see, there are also a number of events that take place throughout the summer for those interested in historic cars. The owners are classic car enthusiasts who welcome the opportunity to share their passion with like-minded classic owners and consequently provide accompanied drive outs in the beautiful surrounding countryside.

Motoring
For those guests who are motorcyclists, who simply want to experience the wonderful, traffic-free French roads of the area, accompanied ride outs are also provided. With the Val de Vienne national race circuit nearby, track days can be organised or simply have a day at the races. Le Mans is within 2 1/2 hours ride, and so international race events such as MotoGP are easily accessible.

Parking
Secure, covered parking adjacent to the gîtes ensures that your cherished vehicle is nearby and safe!

Smoking
Although you may smoke in the gardens and exterior parts of the property generally, the gîtes themselves are non-smoking areas.

Pets
In the interests of preserving the fixtures and fittings of the gîtes, and in the general interests of tidiness of the property, we are sorry to say that we cannot accept pets at the property.

Meet Abi and John
Picture of Abi and John.

Following annual visits to the Angoulême historic racing event, the Circuit des Remparts, Abi and John moved to nearby Vanzay in the summer of 2007 from north Buckinghamshire to enjoy the peaceful way of life in rural France.

The gîte business has given them the opportunity to share the experience with their guests and the excuse to visit the wealth of cultural and historical attractions across the southwest of France to provide an unforgettable holiday experience to visitors.
Where are we?
The village of Vanzay is situated in the Deux Sevres, close to the borders of the Vienne and the Charente. It is 6 km from Chaunay (N10) and approximately 50 kms from Poitiers.
